As part of the University’s ‘An Evening with…’ series, hosted by renowned broadcaster Gordon Burns, Bolton Business School will welcome Greater Manchester Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner, Tony Lloyd.

Born in Stretford, Tony attended schools in the local area before studying Mathematics at the University of Nottingham and Business Administration at Manchester Business School.

He taught at Salford University in the Department of Business and in 1979 was elected to Trafford Council as a member of the Labour Party.

He would go on to represent the constituency of Stretford as a Member of Parliament from 1983 until significant boundary changes in 1997.

He then represented the Manchester Central constituency before standing down in October 2012 to contest the Police and Crime Commissioner election.

He was duly elected to this position in 2012 and, in 2015, was appointed interim Mayor of Greater Manchester.

During his time in office Tony served a number of different front bench roles including Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and Shadow Minister for Education.

The evening will start at 6pm with registration, networking opportunities and buffet and refreshments, followed by the main event in the Deane Lecture Theatre, aiming to finish at 8pm.
